In the red: (tình huống tài chính) mà một cá nhân, doanh nghiệp hoặc tổ chức phải gánh chịu thua lỗ hoặc nợ nần, nghĩa là họ có nhiều khoản chi phí phải chi trả hơn khoản thu nhập/doanh thu đạt được. Nó trái ngược với “in the black”, biểu thị một tình huống có lợi nhuận hoặc ổn định về tài chính.
